Join Our Volunteer Team!

Without our amazing volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to run StarJam’s workshops – so it’s only with your help that we can continue making a difference! Through helping us to put our young people in the spotlight, you will be in the frontline of an exciting, dynamic organisation actively helping to transform lives and changing people’s attitudes towards young people with disabilities nationwide.

StarJam Workshops

We run performance workshop programmes for young people with disabilities in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington and Christchurch. Each one requires two dedicated volunteers to help supervise and support the wonderful young people involved, known as Jammers (our young people). As a volunteer, you’ll be responsible for opening and securing the venue, ensuring the safety of all the participants and generally having a fun time with the Jammers. We hold these workshops on a week night from 6.30pm to 8pm during school terms. This role is best suited to someone who can commit to regular involvement.

Community Events

We also hold social community events in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington and Christchurch at the end of each term for our Jammers to perform and socialise with the wider community.  Our volunteers assist in various activities, games and support StarJam staff. This volunteer role is most suited to someone looking to make a regular commitment.

General Volunteers

StarJam holds a range of exciting events and projects throughout the year and we’re always looking for volunteers to help out – from bucket shaking to envelope stuffing – we want you!  These general volunteer roles are suited for people looking for an occasional commitment to a specific event or project.

What we offer our volunteers:

  • Excellent training programme, including first aid training and one hour orientation (for workshop volunteering)
  • Ongoing regular support from StarJam staff member
  • Fun, rewarding roles and fantastic reference which looks great on your CV
  • The opportunity to give back to the community and be part of an amazing organisation
  • The chance to build lasting friendships, and the promise of loads of fun!
