I’ve learned a lot of life lessons from StarJam. Just because you have a disability doesn’t mean you can’t get on and be like everyone else ... StarJam is a life changing experience.

what makes us different?

We think we are different because we concentrate on what our kids can achieve rather than what they can’t.

Creating a sense of community for these kids has had results which have far surpassed our wildest dreams.

Our kids build confidence and character, they gain new friends, new hope and new purpose which spreads out to their immediate family, extended family, friends and then the wider community.

The name of the organisation could have been ‘singfun’ or ‘powerdance’!

Roy and Julie

Co-founders Julie & Roy Bartlett sat down seven years ago to try to come up with a more suitable name for an idea that Julie was calling Extra-unordinary People Paradigm Project (eek!) They decided to write a whole lot of words on a big sheet of paper … words like sing, fun, gig, kids, talent, power … words that came to mind when they thought of this crazy idea she’d had.

They both stared at the piece of paper for a few minutes. Then Roy pointed at one word with his left hand (cos he’s a kack-hander) and another with his right and there it was.

‘Star’ and ‘Jam’ … STARJAM!

It all started with a speech at a wedding …

it all started at
a wedding

Julie’s younger brother Ross made a speech at the Bartlett wedding which left all the guests in tears and gave them a newfound respect for and attitude towards him. The inspiration for Julie and Roy with more than 30 years not-for-profit experience between them, was then to create a project where everyone could experience this transformation.
