StarJam’s first Jambassador; Five Jammers Go Hollywood 2006; Talent Expansion Programme

StarJam’s First Jambassador

StarJam is delighted to announce the appointment of its first Jam bassador. T’DA! It is John Hawkesby. John and his wife attended StarJam Rocks in December 2005 and got well and truly jammed. John’s daughter Kate Hawkesby co-hosted the show with Jammer Daniel Gourlay. As a result of John’s enthusiasm for StarJam’s vision, we have invited him to be our first ever Jam bassador. John will be “at large” popping up at future StarJam shows and giving his encouragement to Jammers at rehearsals.

John Hawkesby is one of New Zealand’s best know broadcasters. He is now living on paradisical Waiheke Island growing grapes on the world’s smallest vineyard.

Five Jammers Go Hollywood 2006

If you have been following our star studded antics, you will remember that we jammed Danny DeVito and Dick van Dyke in Hollywood in 2004. This was made possible through the assistance of Air New Zealand. This year, our national airline is providing even more tickets for a Jamming trip to Hollywood. This time we will be taking 5 Jammers. Here are the 5 who are preparing to Go Hollywood.

Ese Aumalesulu has been involved with StarJam since its inception. He plays a range of instruments and is also an extremely versatile singer. Not only is Jonathan Heaps is a great singer, he also has outstanding interviewing skills and a very quick wit. Picton-based singer Renee Maurice has written more than 20 songs and a movie script – all at the grand age of 15! Olivia Shivas is passionate about the entertainment industry and would love to be a TV presenter. Isaac Toafa expresses his bubbly personality, sharp intelligence and spontaneity through his soulful singing.

Watch out for news of who they will be Jamming. Sincere thanks to Air New Zealand for their support and assistance.

Talent Expansion Programme and February Meeting

In last month’s e-chat, we made the exciting announcement that Star Jam is creating even more opportunities for young people to be stars by developing a programme of weekly ‘talent expansion’ workshops. At February’s monthly Star Jam meeting, Jammers had a taste of what some of these workshops might involve.

An exuberant drumming mini-jam kicked off the festivities with over 70 people drumming at once!!!. Jammers also took to the floor with some energetic dance moves before participating in an acting mini-workshop that had them improvising being buzzy bees, flies . . . and fly-swats!

Star Jam gives a heartfelt thanks to Jaqui Barrett, Allie Carter and John Rawls for their energy and enthusiasm in leading the mini-workshops….. and everyone who gives so generously of their time to StarJam.

Watch out for hot news in April.
