CoolJam
And Introducing new StarJam Trustee, Peter Ross

How many jams can you fit into a 10 day jamming trip to USA? Would you believe ten! The pace has been non stop - in between the jamming, the Jammers have been taking in as much of California as they can. The pix tell some of the story. Isaac Toafa interviewed Alan Dale of ‘Neighbours’ fame. Another New Zealand -born actor Charles Mesure well-known from Kiwi TV series ‘Street Legal’ has since featured in “Lost” . Coincidentally, so has Alan Dale. After Ese Aumalesulu interviewed Charles, they got into a spontaneous jam singing every Kiwis’ fave song “Better Be Home Soon”. Next you see Olivia Shivas beaming brightly after interviewing Sean Astin of “Lord of the Rings” hobbit fame.
And now the truth comes out - Ese and Jonathan Heaps did go ’sightseeing’ down Hollywood Boulevard!
But for the rest of us, we created a game of finding a star who shares your own first name, covering the surname with your feet and having your photo taken. You’ll see below that Olivia Shivas quickly found Olivia Newton-John’s star and wheeled right over the Newton-John bit. Renee Maurice found Julie Andrew’s hand prints outside the Chinese Theatre. Lucky Renee will be interviewing Julie Andrews tomorrow. We would say Lucky Julie Andrews too.

The largest scale jam so far has been in Sacramento. All the Jammers gave a mini concert to none other than Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Here we all are waiting outside the Governor’s office before the jam. From left, (standing) you’ll see Caregiver and second Cameraman John Maurice, Jamming Leaders Julie & Roy Bartlett, Jammer Jono, security guard keeping us in check, Caregiver, Lauren Heaps, and Jammers, Renee, Ese and Isaac. In the front you’ll spot Caregiver, Marion Gourlay, Jammer, Olivia and Caregiver Penny Shivas. The twelfth member of our Jamming party, Cameraman Baz Caitcheon is taking the photo.

Yes, it’s true, we haven’t told you about all the jams yet. Exclusive footage from the interviews and Hollywood escapades will be screened at StarJam’s next live show, StarJam Rocks on Saturday 26th August 2006 in Auckland, New Zealand.
BILLY FURY FAN CLUB SUPPORTS STARJAM
We give heartfelt thanks to the Billy Fury Fan Club for donating the proceeds of their recent Billy Birthday Bash to StarJam. Jammers Sian Thomas and Luke Fraser (pictured below with Austin Powers and the Fan Club’s passionate president, Moya) represented StarJam on the night and had a wonderful time! Luke shook hands with his idol, Elvis Presley, and Sian even got to perform on stage with Madonna!
CoolJam, StarJam’s exciting new programme of performing arts workshops, kicks off today! Jammers will be participating in hip-hop, singing, guitar and acting workshops throughout the second school term. Plans are afoot to offer even more CoolJam workshops as the year progresses, so we’d love to hear your ideas.
INTRODUCING NEW TRUSTEE, PETER ROSS
Peter is a chartered accountant who was a partner in KPMG both in New Zealand and Hong Kong for a total of 21 years. During that time he specialised in management consulting and he currently works with Sheffield Consulting as an advisor on senior executive and director appointments. He is married to Sally and has three grown up children one of whom, Jonathan, volunteered at StarJam Rocks 2005. Peter’s involvement in Newmarket Rotary and the programs for young people drew him to the StarJam ideal and he has been thoroughly jammed by the process!
We promise there’ll be more hot news for you next month. Till then, keeping on jamming.
